Socialism in America

Pelosi blubbers with glee over the bailout bill

Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall, when the wise are banished from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people, in order to betray them.

-Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution, 1833

If ye love wealth better than liberty and the tranquility of servitude better than the animated contest of freedom, then crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly on you and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen…go from us in peace, we ask not your counsel or your arms.

- Samuel Adams

Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget that the state wants to live at the expense of everyone.

The state is the great fictitious entity by which everyone seeks to live at the expense of everyone else.

-Frederic Bastiat

  1. Love the quotes.. and don't forget:
"I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents." - James Madison, the father of our Constitution

  2. I think that it is vitally important that we redirect the conversation from personalities to policies. These quotes are a great step in this direction.

We can't just call for the tax policies of Reagan else the other side will say we're living in the past. We ought to go centuries further back to Edmund Burke and talk about the proper role of government and liberty. Make our case that the government is a poor mamma and that we don't want to be kept like serfs. And speaking of Reagan, here is his speech, A Time For Choosing.

  3. Greedy, corrupt, foolish, and bigoted Republicans richly deserve the shellacking they're going to get in a week.
