The Rapid Uses Communist-Inspired Logo for Free Concert

Does anyone else find it odd the The Rapid bus system is using a communist-inspired logo to advertise the free concert they are holding on April 16th? This concert, called the "Rapid Revolution," is allegedly aimed at inspiring people to vote yes on the May 3rd millage increase for the Rapid Fail Line, oops, I mean the Rapid Silver Line. It's a rather strange tactic to get out the vote. Frankly, it's a little jarring and I can't imagine that this type of imagery would inspire confidence or excitement in the average voter.

What I really can't understand is why they would use a logo that has been used by communist and socialist groups for so long. Some examples are below. Do they really want to associate a bus system with governments which have murdered tens of millions of people through forced labor, starvation, war, and mass murder?

Well, if you're inspired, I'm sure they'd love to have you at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids on April 16th, between 2:00pm and 7:00pm. If you're not inspired, maybe you'd want to contact The Rapid and ask why they're associating with a communist symbol.

  2. Once again as in May 2009 it's time for responsible common sense people to be heard again. The RAPID yes people with $100k backing are attempting to spread their social agenda on the backs of taxpayers. Look at the master Rapid plan and try to find where they are adding new routes. Thank you to the people in Grandville, Kentwood, Walker, Wyoming to killing this millage in 2009. We need you again! Go to itpwatch.org to see how you can get involved and make public organizations be responsible with our tax dollars.

And to the admins / web designers of this site...please HELP US help voters understand that they need to vote NO on May 3 by posting links to vote-no videos, sites, articles etc. to the Rapid's official facebook page. Daily propoganda is urging people to vote YES...I need your help to try to keep vote-no posts near the top! THANKS!!!! :)

  5. The clenched fist has also been used by the women's rights movements at the turn of the century, anti-tax protests, Egyptian freedom groups, pro-capitalist groups, anti-censorship movements, etc. Tying the rapid to socialism through this fist is like tying the red wings to nazi germany because both use the colour red. "The fist has become universal, context is now crucial to understanding its meaning." - http://www.docspopuli.org/articles/Fist.html

  7. What is all this bitterness from? I think you're misinterpreting The Rapids' agenda. A lot of the figures on this site are ...wrong. No one in the public sector profits from these things...maybe private developers who take advantage of them. Either way, when it comes down to it, people need to ride the bus. It's just that simple. Some people can't afford to drive, especially when gas prices are higher. So go read a book or something and chill out. Providing transportation choices actually expands the free market, believe it or not.

This poster is clearly just a play on words and related to the type of music featured at the concert. Trust me. No one is a communist anymore. It's not 1956.
